Meet Boulder Book Store located in Boulder, CO. They are one of our great customers in our home state of Colorado! Thank you to Stephanie for taking the time to answer some questions and be sure to check them out the next time you are in Boulder. YAY! Boulder Book Store!
What do you do in your store to nurture your community culture?
We regularly host events with national and local authors to help bring cultural and educational experiences to Boulder
What trend do you see in your indie business that you’re excited about?
The biggest trend in Indie Bookstores right now is focusing on the customer’s in-store experience, and I’m all about this! People who are coming into our store want a real interaction with real people in a real place, so we do everything we can to provide great customer service, personal book recommendations and a fantastic experience when they come in our store.
What’s something you feel people should do more of?
Have conversations with friends and family, either at home or out on the town, that don’t involve technology – put away the phone, turn off the TV, and have a real connection that’s not interrupted by a screen!
What changes or improvements do you have planned for your business in 2016/2017?
We’re starting a summer camp this year based on T. A. Barron’s Merlin Saga, and I’m very excited about it! I love the idea of a book-based summer camp for kids, it’s something I wish I had had when I was young.
What’s been one of the most pleasant experiences of running your business/your job?
Seeing the joy and excitement of people meeting their favorite author of all time at our store, and knowing that I helped to bring that author to town and make that connection happen.
What successful choices have you made in your business that others should consider doing?
It’s something that I think any successful business has had to do at some point – pushing out of the comfort zone and trying something new and different, even if you’re not sure how it will play out. As a small, independent business, it’s particularly important to try new things, to evolve with our customers, so that we continue to provide what they want and need in new and interesting ways.
What makes you say YAY!?
A brand new book that I can’t put down! And then sharing it with someone else!
